LaGrange Rotary 100th Anniversary Inaugural 5K run/walk to benefit local literacy programs.
In celebration of LaGrange Rotary’s 100th Anniversary, the Club provided an opportunity to involve our
community while raising money to support literacy in our area. On Saturday, September 23, 2023, four
days before the 100 th anniversary date of the LaGrange club, the first Running for Rotary took place in
LaGrange.
The run/walk covered a 3.1-mile certified course using the town’s Thread Trail. There were ninety-six
participants of all ages – from 9 to 82. Eight LaGrange Rotarians ran, and eighteen Rotarians were
volunteers in support of the race. Each participant received a commemorative t-shirt, and age group
winners received medals for their accomplishments.
The run/walk was supported by entry fees as well as sponsors. There were nine sponsor organizations.
The total amount raised in support of the literacy goal was $10,000. The Club solicited requests for
grants from local literacy advocate groups, and two grants of $2,500 each and one grant of $5,000 will
be awarded.
With the success of this event, the Club is planning the 2 nd Annual Run for Rotary in the coming year.
