Each year LaGrange Rotary Club Members proudly participate in the Rotary International World Polio Day Program. This year World Polio Day is Tuesday, October 24. Again, we asked our members to make a small donation through one of three ways: by using Venmo, on their club statement or given directly at one of our regular club meetings. Donations were accepted until Wednesday, November 1st. The event was held at Coleman Center. Rotaract, Interact students, club members and friends all attended the event. Rotary International President Gordon R. McInally's polio presentation was shown during the event.
Today, the polio virus is still endemic in two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Continued support of this Rotary initiative is helping to make a difference. Even small donations go a long way in helping Rotary International continue the fight against Polio. A major motivation for this fund raiser is that again this year the Bill and Melinda Gates will add another two dollars for every dollar that we raise.
At our meeting on October 18th a short program was given on the progress and current status on the continued effort to eradicate polio. Information was also given on RI plans to mark this year's World Polio Awareness Day.
Our goal was to raise $500, we were able to raise $545.
