LaGrange Rotary 100th Anniversary Second Annual 5K run/walk to benefit local literacy and youth programs.
Last year's 5K event was in celebration of LaGrange Rotary’s 100th Anniversary, the Club provided an opportunity to involve our community while raising money to support literacy in our area. On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the second Running for Rotary took place in LaGrange.
This year we were very excited to welcome District Governor Gordon Owens and his wife who joined us and participated in the race.
The run/walk covered a 3.1-mile certified course using the town’s Thread Trail. There were ninety-six participants of all ages – from 9 to 82. Eight LaGrange Rotarians ran, and eighteen Rotarians were volunteers in support of the race. Each participant received a commemorative t-shirt, and age group winners received medals for their accomplishments.
The run/walk was supported by entry fees as well as sponsors, this year we had an increase in both. We had 12 sponsor organizations and 155 runners/participants.
The total amount raised in support of the literacy goal was $12,000. The Club has designated the raised funds to support our Mayor's summer reading program and some of our other youth programs.
With the success of this event, the Club is planning the 3rd Annual Run for Rotary in the coming year.
(the number of hours reflect the total that Scott and John planning the event plus the hours that the volunteers spent for the set up and breakdown for the event.)
Scott Landa and John Harrell spent many hours putting together this great event.
