Our club ends each Rotary year with a Family of Rotary banquet where we highlight what we have accomplished for the past year and welcome in the new Rotary year. This event is always a highlight for our members, their families and community members. The event took place at the newly opened Oakfuskee Conservation Center on beautiful West Point Lake.
Three awards are given to individuals who exemplify the Rotary motto "Service Above Self". For the 2024 celebration, the following were recognized:
Rotarian of the Year - Jake Jones, recognized for his unwavering support behind the scenes.
Barbara Henigin Above and Beyond Service Award - We know that to truly put the needs of others above your own requires sacrifice. Willie T. Edmondson did just that serving on City Council for 24 years and becoming the first African-American Mayor in our 195 year history. He pastored a church and owned a thriving funeral home business. He was a true definition of a Rotarian. Sadly, Willie T. Edmondson passed away before the annual banquet but his family attended to accept the honor.
Charles D. Hudson Citizen of the Year Award - Mr. Hudson was the consummate Rotarian, serving 61 years with 33 years of consecutive perfect attendance. Judge Michael Key has dedicated his life to serving those most vulnerable among us and it was an honor to recognize him with this award.
The evening ended with the passing of the gavel and a huge thank you to outgoing president Tripp Penn.
Incoming Club President Connie presented out going Club President Tripp with his club president gavel.
Our graduating seniors attended and was honored during the evening.
Oni and Claire were honored for being in our Rotary Youth Challenge program for the past 11 years. Both students were planning on going to college.
