FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message

"The List"

For those who were at last week's meeting, we were treated to a great presentation by Past President Maurice Hilliard where he tapped into our thoughts of influential individuals from all areas of leadership and asked the question, who's list are you on for being an influence in their lives?  As Rotarians, it's our job to leave this place on "The LIST" of many.

During the course of the year we have heard many guest speakers talk about the growing need to address the problems associated with mental health disorders.   This topic has hit home with many past and present Rotarians.  This week we hosted our first Behavioral Health Advisory Council meeting with Dr. Breshears and his WellStar staff to provide constructive feedback on what is needed in the Roswell community leading to a successful awareness and education campaign for our school aged children.  This group included numerous Rotarians, social workers from schools, leadership from our NGO's, behavioral health specialist and the Mayor of Roswell.  The group provided constructive dialog on what is needed in our community to help those in need.  With this information, our partners at WellStar will develop tools to take into our community to help curb the spread of mental health disorders.

It's great to be a Rotarian.

Speaker Feb. 11, 2022 Phil Dotson
Phil Dotson, Executive Director Lunches for Learning

Our program this week is "Lunches for Learning":

Lunches for Learning exists to break the cycle of poverty in rural Honduras by providing a healthy lunch to school children every school day at their school; thereby allowing these children to stay in school so they can complete their education and enter the workforce as literate individuals.

Speaker is Phil Dodson, Executive Director Lunches for Learning

Phil Dodson joined the Lunches for Learning team as Executive Director in 2016. His previous experience included serving as Development Director for North Georgia United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries in Atlanta from 2006 to 2016. As a 1986 graduate of LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia, Phil began his career in higher education, serving three different colleges in the Admission and Financial Aid arena. In 1997, he transitioned to the credit and financial services industry where he served in Client Relations roles with Total System Services in Columbus, Georgia, and Transunion in Atlanta before returning to the nonprofit sector in 2006 with North Georgia Camp & Retreat Ministries. Phil and his wife Tracy live in Cleveland, Georgia. They have three adult children: Megan, age 26; Mia, age 23; and Jimmy, age 21.

The Lunches for Learning Team

June of 2019 was the first time the entire Lunches for Learning entire team had been together in Honduras in quite a while. It seemed an appropriate time for a team photo. Very special team!

Front row, left to right, are Juniors Ortiz, Mary Lou Monaghan, and Phil Dodson. Back row, left to right, are Jessica Gonzalez and Ramón Romero.

Membership Strategy Meeting at Houck's Thursday, Feb. 10 at 5:30pm

…. Thursday, February 10th … 5:30+ at Houck’s … All are welcome

Membership Needs YOUR help!

Have you ever heard of the expression “two good people are better than one?”   It’s the idea that a second person’s advice can be very useful.  That’s exactly what we need from you.  On Thursday, February 10th  at Houck’s Bar and Grill, please join us to discuss ideas for reaching new members.  Specifically, we want to you to share ideas with us as to how we can spread the word on our three new membership classifications.

As you recall this past Fall, we added a “Young Professional Membership,” “Corporate Membership,” and a “Non-profit Membership.  Our challenge has been sharing these new classifications with prospective members. Thus, we need your creativity and ideas!

Please join us and share your thoughts.

Volunteer Event
Bulloch Hall Cleanup February 12 and February 19

Roswell Rotary is mobilizing!!!  We need your help at 9 am on Saturday, February 12th and February 19th at Bulloch Hall.  Let's help the City clean up the white rail fencing.

The ask:

Feb. 12:  We need pressure washers, hoses, and light carpentry work (to replace any fence boards not worth saving).  We also need folks and tools to help prune back vegetation off of the fence.

Feb. 19: We will be back to paint the fencing on February 19 and need volunteers to help us spruce up the fence.

It's a great way to repay City of Roswell for all they do for us!

Let's help repay the City of Roswell in some small way for the use of the Gym and kitchen facilities that we enjoy each week.

To Sign up:

Volunteers please contact Matt Millard at 678.414.6564 and he will send you the required City of Roswell waiver and get you set up!  Thank you!
