Getting to Know Your Emergency Agency - Matthew Kallmyer

Monday, August 15th The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs had the pleasure of hearing Matthew Kallmyer, Director at Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency, speak about who they are, what they do, and how they do it.

Established in 1950 and previously known as Civil Defense Agency, The Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency(AFCEMA) is responsible for activities associated with Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, Resource Management, and Recovery. They also serve as the liaison to external partners at the local, regional, State and Federal level.

The mission statement of AFCEMA is to enhance the preparedness and resiliency of our communities by coordinating and integrating the activities necessary to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural or man-made disasters.

AFCEMA provided much needed help to the community throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic including:

  • 556,006 COVID Vaccines administered
  • 14 million dollars invested in PPE
  • Supported 5 state and county SPOCs that administered 613,387 COVID tests
  • Procured 174,000 at home COVID test for distribution
  • Oversaw 11 geographically dispersed COVID PODs
  • Supported over 925 Mobile Vax events
  • partnered with 100+ organizations including schools, churches, volunteer groups, and local businesses.

Thank you for coming to speak to the The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs and for all the good you do in our community Matthew!

Visit AFCEMA on Facebook at www.facebook.com/AFCEMA, Twitter @AFCEMA, or Instagram @ReadyAFCEMA to keep up with everything they are doing to prepare our communities for natural or man-made disasters.
