FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President John’s Message

Are you getting tired of winter and looking for activities to get out of the house?  Well, this month and next we have numerous ways to get involved serving our youth and our community.  Opportunities include:

  • February 18 - Unity Garden volunteering at Chattahoochee Nature Center with our After Hours club.  All the produce grown in the garden is donated to North Fulton Community Charities - see signup link below.
  • March 2 - Read Across Roswell in conjunction with Read Across America.  Reading to kindergarteners at 5 elementary schools - see signup link below.
  • March 4 - Roswell Beer Festival supporting STAR House. Get your tickets and come visit the Roswell Rotary tent.  Or join with our After Hours club to volunteer as pourers.
  • March 11 - Unity Garden volunteering Round 2
  • March 18 - Roswell Rotary Relays at Roswell High School.  Great day of track and field with many volunteers needed - see signup link below.
  • March 25 - Sweep the Hooch - annual springtime cleanup of our portion of the Chattahoochee River along Riverside Road. Great way to get the whole family involved in service - signup will be available soon

Rotary is about Service Above Self.  Take the opportunity to get involved in Service this February and March.

Thursday Program HearingLife: Susanne Lynch & Rebecca Knox

Do you have difficulty following conversations?  Are phone conversations unclear?  Do you have to ask others to repeat themselves?  Do you have difficulty locating sounds?  Do you have ringing or buzzing in your ears?  Do you have to turn up the TV loud?

These are signs of hearing loss. Our hearing has never been a more significant part of life than it is today. It connects us in every way possible. Without it, we lose touch with life and those around us. We use our hearing to feel, connect, navigate, communicate and make sense of the world. Hearing care can be life-changing for those with hearing loss. The more sounds we hear, the more we're able to participate in and enjoy life.

This week we will hear from Susanne Lynch and Rebecca Knox from HearingLife. You'll want to hear them!

Past President Moment - Gene Beckham 2007-2008

The Spring of 2008…Roswell Rotary embarked on its first Honor Air flight to Washington, DC with about 90 World War II veterans. The first of many Roswell Rotary trips to take veterans to see the WWII, Korea and Vietnam Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  This is just one of many highlights in the Rotary year 2007-2008 under President Gene Beckham.  Come hear more this week.  Get there early and check out Gene’s scrapbook on display and on the big screen.

RRAH Meeting Recap

Last week, After Hours welcomed STAR House Executive Director Stephanie Christiansen! She spoke on STAR House's history, mission and the vital role the Roswell Beer Festival plays in their fundraising efforts. The club is gathering a group of volunteers to pour beer at the festival and can't wait to (literally) serve the community.

The next After Hours meeting is Feb. 21 at 6:30 at The Artillery Room @ Gate City.

District Conference April 27-30 Sandestin, FL
Did Someone Say Beach???

Okay…so you arrived at Sandestin Thursday, visited the hospitality suite, survived the Pig Roast, tried to win the Cornhole tournament, and visited the hospitality suite again.  This District Conference is definitely the place to be.  What’s on tap for Friday?  Probably meetings and listening to speeches.

The Beach … Did someone say the Beach ??

Yes that’s right…free time on Friday can be spent at the beach, playing golf, playing tennis, or just plain relaxing.  Then join the group again in the hospitality suite before the evening festivities begin.

Registration fees increase on March 1.  Make your reservations today!  Registration and Accommodations Link
