FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynne Lindsey and all news should be directed to her at lynnehlindsay@outlook.com

President John's Message

It’s another “Banner” year for Roswell Rotary.  We returned from District Conference in Florida with District 6900’s recognition of another great year for Roswell Rotary.  Recognitions are great, but it’s not why we go out and serve our community and others around the world.  It is amazing how many lives our efforts touch with the work we do.

We were honored for our Community Impact project “Teen Talks” receiving the “Best Service Project - Youth” and (placeholder while I confirm the project) the “Best Vocational Service Project".  But that’s not all we did this year.  Check out the 62 projects and events we submitted to the District this year at this weblink: Roswell Rotary Projects & Events  You may have to log into the District site, then click on the “eyeball” to the right to see each project.

But we are not done.  This month we host one of the largest Memorial Day ceremonies in the southeast on Monday, May 29th at Roswell City Hall.  You too can serve - we need volunteers to help with setup, operations, and take down.  You can find more information below.

I am so proud of all we have accomplished this year.  It's true - ROSWELL ROTARY ROCKS!!

Program Thursday May 4
Lance LoRusso: Serve Others-Live Without Fear

Lance LoRusso is an attorney and unapologetic advocate for law enforcement and first responders in the legal system and the media.Lance has over 30 years of public safety experience as an EMT, cop, and trainer, and was named Attorney of the Year in 2021 by the National Fraternal Order of Police.

Lance has represented over 160 first responders in shootings and critical incidents and also represents injured first responders.

Lance is an author of educational books for first responders as well as fiction books inspired by his experiences as a first responder and representing them during some of the most trying times of their lives.

Past President Moment
Jeff McCoy 2016-2017

How appropriate it is that on a week when our speaker is a defender of first responders, we have Past President Jeff McCoy share about his year 2016-17.  With the great assistance of Senator John Albers, Jeff led our first ever Patriot Flight taking local first responders to New York City to visit the 9/11 Memorial.  But that was just the beginning of a great Rotary year.  Come check out the video and hear what all we accomplished in 2016-17.

Jekyll Island- March 21-24, 2024
District Conference 2024

Want a bargain?  THIS WEEK ONLY UNTIL MAY 7th, you can save $75 on the registration for next year’s District Conference at Jekyll Island.  This is the conference where we will welcome our own Gordon Owens as District Governor for 2024-25.  You can register at this link on the District 6900 website:  2024 District Conference at Jekyll Island

RRAH Club Update

Roswell Rotary After Hours members Lindsay and John Davies volunteered at the The Unity Garden at the Chattahoochee Nature Center on Saturday! They planted 150 plants for the upcoming Butterfly Encounter and Butterfly Festival happening June 3-4. The next volunteer dates will be June 24th, July 22nd, September 23rd. All Rotarians are invited!

RRAH is NOT meeting tonight at The Artillery Room. They are hosting a special Cinco de Mayo recruitment event instead. See you May 16!

May 4-6
International Peace Conference

Looking forward to the 2023 International Peace Conference on May 4-6 right here in the heart of the South! This conference will feature over 80 speakers from across the globe who will speak on topics such as human trafficking, reducing violence in our communities, education, social justice, empowerment of women and much more. The Human Trafficking program is particularly strong, bringing many of the best presenters encountered working on this issue.

In addition to the Human Trafficking panels and presentations, there will also be speakers on Empowering Women and Girls, some of whom are also either treating trafficking victims or educating girls on how to avoid the dangers of traffickers; on domestic violence; and, on preventing child marriage.

This is a “don’t miss” event! Take advantage of the great lineup of speakers and convene with others who are dedicated to ending human trafficking as well as many more who are building peace in other ways, including the largest group of Rotary Peace Fellows you are ever likely to encounter in one place at one time.

Join us as we come together to learn how we can #buildpeace. To learn more about @ipeace2023, visit: International Peace Conference or contact Dave McCleary at dave.m@ragas.online
